Entertaining, thought provoking, a MUST buy

As a long time mountaineer, I am well versed in the mountaineering literature. My book collection has many treasures, but none as valued as Bernbaum's "Sacred Mountains of the World". This is a book I use to remind me that the lure of the mountains has a spiritual aspect that transcends the lure of conquest. Some mountains are special and Bernbaum, a Buddhist scholar in addition to his work in Asian Studies, tells their stories with great skill. Drawing upon the literature and myths of the past, Bernbaum reminds the modern reader why we should look upon mountains as "embodiments of humanity's highest ideals and aspirations". The book is entertaining as well as thought provoking--the photos are superb. The book is so good, it makes me want to share it with others. I have given it as a gift many times. I enthusiastically give it five stars.

Essential!

This is one of few essential books in my library. It's the encyclopedia of sacred mountains, but also clearly a work of love. Sacred mountains have come to guide my own life in a very profound way, and this book has given wise counsel to such a journey. It is also supremely beautiful with some sublime fullpage photos - worth buying an extra coffee table for!

Much Truth is found in this book

Ella Hughley has written a book about a controversial subject, that is only whispered about from time to time by Scholars, Archaeologist and Theologians. She shows that the original Hebrews who were freed from Egyptian bondage, were a black skinned people. But it doesn't stop there, she provides more information that shows the African Americans are descendants of those original Hebrews.
This book brings out the fact that the bible says Ancient Israel looked like the Ethiopian and Ancient Egyptians. Ella Hughley shows this by the biblical comparison of Moses and Joseph to the Ancient Egyptians. She shows how the punishments / curses that were put on Israel by the most high fit the full description of the African Americans history and social ills in the western hemisphere.
Ella Hughley goes deeper, she provides information about the Ashkenazi Jews, and who they are really descendants from......
All in all this is a good book to begin you on the path to the truth about the original Biblical Israelites. It's a small book (68 pages) but it contains big information.

Must read book!

This book lays out facts and interpretations of the Bible that are never revealed or discussed in bible study classes. People have held on to worshiping blindly because they are not interested and are not taught to seek the meanings of the words used throughout the Bible. About the Author
Daniel Odier was born in Geneva in 1945. He is best-known as the author of a Lolita-esque series of novels published in France under the pseudonym Delacorta. His book of sexual mysticism, Tantric Quest, was an international bestseller. For several years he taught screenwriting at the University of Oklahoma at Tulsa. The author lives in France.

Delight upon delight

I was delighted to learn of Odier's The Doors of Joy, since his earlier book, Tantric Quest, remains one of my favorites; in the top five of all the books I own. Doors of Joy is pithy wisdom obviously distilled from years of spiritual practice and a honed writer's ability to do away with the non-essential, leaving the reader with the gift of bite size morsels that refresh, nurture and delight the imagination. What a gift these meditations are! I feel joyous each time I read this book, and not much more needs to be read at a sitting than a page of two to infect me with a renewed trust in spontaneity and allowance of my playful, creative, authentic nature. Warning: this book will certainly encourage you to take risks with yourself that you probably haven't trusted in a long, long time. Len Worley, PhD, Austin, TX

The chapters explore the nature of the modern city in literature, history, film and culture from its origins in the early-modern period to postmodern dislocations and considers the city as a context within which literature is created, structured, and inspired, and as a space within which distinct voices and genres emerge. Much interest has developed recently on the city and its contexts but there is a tendency to focus on London (for example there is the journal Literary London: Interdisciplinary Studies in the Representation of London and the annual Literary London Conference, a major conference that has run since 2002). This collection fills an important gap in the market by having a truly global focus.

and so it continues..

I didn't expect much improvement from part 1. Unfortunately, it appears this story will be continued. My hope is that the team takes a step backs and re-structures the story in a way that is consistent and entertaining. There was very little depth or development to the story or characters and little in the way of an explanation offered for character reactions and relationships that didn't quite come off as endearing or genuine as intended..while this series is not for me, i applaud the author for putting her work out there to be enjoyed and reviewed.

Written from the perspective of a retired but still battle hungry Grand Marshall of the Empire, this book takes a look at some significant battles that occur in Warhammer lore.

It features notable battles with the vampire counts, Sigmar's epic battle against orks, the siege of Kieslev by Chaos forces and a couple others that were less notable (at least to me!).

The art is good but the real substance is in the writting. The description of forces, events leading up to the battles, and the battle itself are great. Overall, a great book and it's got great ending that I won't give away.
